Dear Skeptic part 1a

Some of these questions are rhetorical.  The purpose of these questions may not seem clear.  With a little thought and a little guidance from someone asking these questions, they may prove helpful in explaining to someone the truth.

  1. Have you had a dental appointment that was painful?
  2. When is a person pronounced dead?
  3. What would happen if all the polar ice melted and all the highest mountain ranges filled in all the deep ocean trenches?
  4. How many witnesses in a court of law establish sufficient evidence
  5. What is the earliest or most basic measure of time?
  6. How did the first single-cell organism come into being?
  7. Are you familiar with surgery procedures during the American Civil War?
  8. Does the fear of executing someone on death row who is actually innocent make you oppose the death penalty?
  9. What is a year? or How is a year measured?
  10. How many times would it take of pouring out scrabble letters onto the floor to randomly form a paragraph? a sentence? a word?
  11. What is the scientific method?
  12. Why are dragon legends universal around the world?
  13. What is a month? or How is a month measured?
  14. What is the science behind the first single-cell organism?
  15. How did the dinosaurs die?
  16. If the heartbeat is the proof of life, why do babies die in abortion clinics after their hearts start beating?
  17. What is the significance of a week and how did it become a universal measure of time?
  18. What is love and what is its origin? (CS Lewis, Mere Christianity)
  19. Preview for the name of the philosopher (First Cause) God vs Atheism, which is more rational

Recruits

Hi team,
Just a brief observation: I have seen a severe rise in the active followers of the occult where I work. My guess is that this is closely related to the fascination with & promotion of literature that glamorizes it.

The life that changes

Life changing moments are happening all around us every minute of every day.  I was just thinking on our way back from Florida of how youth can't truly know elegy, but I'm not so sure now.  One reason I write, one reason I teach, and everything else is to make some kind of difference for one more.  I think of the starfish story and the man who walked along the beach picking up starfish and throwing them in the water.  A passerby commented that he can't possibly make a difference with all the starfish washing up around the world.  His reply as he picked up another was, "it makes a difference to that one..."  It might be that the life that changes might be yours.

Into the Fray

I just posted this on the university web page... I thought it was good to post

I am not up to speed on this issue, but I do have a few comments to add:
I believe the proposed law, at least in my state, will make it a felony to threaten law enforcement if you have the immediate means to carry out the threat (i.e. face to face with a weapon in hand or readily available), otherwise, such a threat is protected as free speech.
Secondly, imagine a society without the protection of law enforcement.  I do not think we want to go there, but this "war on cops" is driving alot of good men and women off the force for their own self-preservation.
Thirdly, the narrative that the police are hunting black males is a false narative.  According to http://killedbypolice.net/, whites are the ethnic group with the highest number killed by cops.
Fourth, with only a very few exceptions, criminals die at the hands of police according to carefully scrutinized rules of engagement and in the commission of a CRIME...
Fifth, the few bad cops who do kill are given a double dose of justice, but only with due process.  I say double dose, because they of all people know the law and are without excuse..
Sixth, to pass judgment on officers without using due process, such as Obama, and virtually every news agency in the business, is of the rankest hypocrisy and perpetuates the false narrative (which imho is done intentionally to divide our country).
Additionally, the two elements that are never mentioned in this issue are the majority of black gun deaths are at the hands of other blacks and the city of Chicago and its gun control laws have only led to worse gun violence and higher death tolls.
I have added a few other comments on the web:

Our own Demise

Hi Dear Reader,
This will be brief (I think).  We have abandoned the care of our children to others who cannot care for them as fully and lovingly as we.  Feminism has left us deprived of sufficient motherly care and left children to raise themselves and invent their own values.  Following this is the gradual creation of a promiscuous society that results in the obliteration of the nurturing environment we once found in the home.  The pocked shell that remains does nothing except perpetuate and accelerate our own Demise.  With promiscuity comes the unwanted pregnancy that costs the innocent her life.  As a closing note.  The founder of Planned Parenthood promoted the idea of its use for population control and even the elimination of certain races from our society, yet we hold her in such high esteem in ignorance of what we really hold dear.

Choice Cut

Hi Folks,
What I really wanted to do this morning was tweet my thought.  Not too sure if it would fit in a tweet, so here we are.

The butcher cuts up pieces of meat for customers.
Cow yields choice beef
Pig yields choice pork
Sheep yields choice mutton
Human yields choice choice

The Stare

Yeah, I've thought this before, but don't think I ever said anything...
I think I know why people stare out the window...
It's when they go to another place and another time...
Quite a long journey that calls them back
And they stare because they are there
and not here...

Might post this on my other blog too..

I can't believe

I can't believe that I'm saying this, but the fact remains that it is contrary to our faith and liberty for the enforcement of prayer and the Bible in Public Schools.  In Summary, matters of faith must be at the discretion of the individual and not pressed upon them by a government agency.  While it is true that such practice played a great role in the lives of young people of our land, The ultimate responsibility of sacred instruction lies solely on the parents, according to the scriptures.  The conclusion is that Parents bear the blame for the state of our Nation.  I will not elaborate further this point at present (I gotta get to work...)

The Church of A.A.

For now, I will spare you the details except to say that Peggy Walls, my professor of Eng491 Am Lit to 1860 and her prejudicial treatment prompted me to write this post with the church of American Academia in mind:

William Bradford’s works provide us with the primary record of the immigrants whom we call today, the Pilgrims (Desperate, 2006).  Baym (2012) identifies the Pilgrims as a “community of believers”.  Bradford was part of this community for many years before their voyage to America (Desperate, 2006).  The Pilgrims worshiped independent of the Church of England which was illegal, but they believed it was their duty to God to worship Him in accordance to the scripture and dictates of their conscience (Desperate, 2006).  Bradford himself describes how the Church of England oppressed him and his fellow believers with “offices and callings… [that were] unlawful and anti-Christian” (Baym, 2012. p.122).  The Pilgrims hazarded their lives in search of religious liberty rather than remain under the persecution of England.

What a privilege

I don't even know if I will take the time to address this topic.  I'm sure it's already been refuted.  For now, I will only say, 'Give me a break'!  So ridiculous, the next thing on the docket is genocide on whitey.  There is so much more I could say, but I have better ways to spend my time.

Pascal, more than Programming

Today, I presented my EPAW model. It became part of a discussion with a guy on twitter.  He suggested I was reverting (like a hail mary pass) to the Pascal Wager.  What can I say? Although it is not the best reason to become a believer, it is certainly a logical conclusion to the dilemma.  Frankly, why would someone not consider the question, "What's happens if I am wrong?"  I do not intend this to be the point of persuasion for becoming a believer.  I simply think it to be very prudent to evaluate what happens at the end of this life.  The scripture says it best.  So you can decide for yourself.  Or... don't and take that blind leap and find out by investigation and verification.  I suppose that if you have read these words, you are remembering them right now.

April 26, 2017 Update:
For quite some time, I have turned over in my mind what is the best approach to addressing the controversy over the existence of God and what the answer to that question means.  This week, while thinking on a recent discussion on the subject, it came to my mind to ask a question that might help to resolve at least in part this dilemma;
Although you believe that God does not exist, or are at least uncertain, If God does exist, wouldn't you want to know it?
I would anticipate three or four possible responses that would lead into additional conversation:

  1.  The most likely response is, "I don't believe in God, so I don't care to answer that question."  There is an ostrich head in the sand with a response like this.  In other words, this is a person who is not interested in pursuing truth, but instead holding to dogma, rhetoric, etc.
  2. A similar response would likely be aimed at some form of addressing Pascal's wager.  Let me point out that this too is intellectually dishonest.  We seem to have a mania, as evidenced by the multi-millions of dollars spent on it, in the search for life on other planets.  It is not enough that life may or may not exist on some other planet.  What is the significance?  Regardless, the obsession is paramount in the minds of many, yet these same people would rather invoke a vain argument against an infinitely more imperative quest for truth.
  3. The third possibility is "No"... but this is in essence the same as response number one.
  4. In the rare event that the answer is "Yes", the conversation opens to a myriad of possibilities, but the one that seems very fitting is, "If you mean that, you should say this prayer: God, if you are real, reveal yourself to me."  If the person is sincere, I am confident that God will answer.  It is important to emphasize the importance of keeping an open mind and an attentive heart.
I can't be sure how this will go until I have a chance to try it, but I hope to take the first opportunity to do so.

Dear Skeptic Part 4 (E.P.A.W.)

I think we all get light bulb ideas in the middle of the night. Last night, I was thinking on the conflict between evolutionism & creationism. I have discovered a philosophical model that is at the core of the debate. I like to call it EPAW, and it looks something like this:
E- evidence: The evidence is the natural world & the cosmos. It got here somehow. Was it created or did it self exist?

P- problem: The single most significant application of this question is the problem of single-cell organisms; how did the first one generate? There is no answer for this  with the scientific method. It reduces to a matter of faith.

A- application: How much time do you have left in this life? Thinking about this question definitely changed for me when I reached the top of the 'hill', the human half-life. Time is a friend to no one especially if you are on the wrong side of our debate which brings us to the final branch of the model...

W- what if you are wrong? I mean what are the consequences?... It applies no matter where you find yourself in this debate.  I will let you answer this question for yourself.

I certainly hope you will clear the table of all previous notions just long enough to give this some honest consideration.

The Call

I had to do something with this... Let's take the next step..

posted by RHONDA M.
A Child Called It was a required reading in one of my early college classes. It tore me a part. I have never finished the series, it was just too much. Reading it from the view of an abused child I would not expect him to elaborate on his abuse. I would not want the metaphors. I want to know who he felt when his mother hit him. I want to see his confusion, feel his pain.

Hi Rhonda,
I think you have shed light on a very important point.  Works like these may be a source of grief for us, but I dare say that there is a far higher purpose for writers to speak of such things.  We all too often either turn a blind eye or become infinitely oblivious to the horrors that happen all around us.  These are not horrors of a cheap Saturday night movie variety.  They are the horrors that someone we may know has faced or does face even as I type these words, and this is a best case scenario here in America.  I can not fathom what we could find in other parts of the world.  These cries from these desperate voices are cries for help.  Cries to help those whom we can hope to help.  We could pine about it in a classroom, but what shall we do?  Shan't we use our words to weave a web of awareness that becomes its own living thing to reach into the lives of even one family and rescue even one wretched soul?  This gift we've been given is not ours to embellish for our own benefit.  If we indeed have a single drop of this elixir of passion and compassion, let us be a voice for those who have none.  Let us give hope to the hopeless, love to the hated.  This is our call.  How will you answer?

Dear Skeptic Part 3

Hello,
So let's talk about your freedom of expression.  I find your statement offensive which is what you wanted.  Congratulations.  I have a statement for you that will be very offensive, but I don't intend for it to offend you..  Some people regard a conversation of this sort as an argument.  I am not writing this as part of a debate.  It is simply an old message that has gone around the world and has come to you either again or hopefully, for the very first time.  You seem to know of Jesus Christ, and you may know the message that we share with you.  You may think that your comments are funny, so here are a few words you may want to consider.
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard [him]; [Heb 2:3 KJV]

Personally, I have no opinion of the choices others make in their lives.  I do however have a responsibility to proclaim the Gospel message.  I also feel I should not be made to feel apologetic for reminding folks what God says.  To be honest, in light of who God is and what he can do.  It is really more like a public service announcement, i.e. I'm doing you a favor regardless of how you feel about it.

It really makes me think of a sinking ship.  I feel responsible to let passengers know they need to evacuate the sinking ship, but they angrily tell me not to tell them what to do.

So hate me for trying to do you a favor.

I think sometimes we take such things personally, or we become like pharisees and consider that we are somehow better that anyone else.  The truth is that we simply have an accurate perspective about eternal matters.

When we see ourselves properly, and we are hated for our message, I will try to remember what Jesus said, They will hate you because they hate me.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. [Jhn 3:7 KJV]
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. [Jhn 3:17 KJV]
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [Jhn 3:18 KJV]
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [Jhn 3:19 KJV]
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. [Jhn 3:20 KJV]
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. [Jhn 3:36 KJV]

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? [Heb 10:29 KJV]
[It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. [Heb 10:31 KJV]

By now, if indeed you have read this far, you are either scoffing at these words of scripture or you are considering them thoughtfully.  For the skeptic, you may have hopes that the Christian faith will vanish in time.  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [Mat 16:18 KJV]

We are all given a choice.  Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? [They] all say unto him, Let him be crucified. [Mat 27:22 KJV]

Have you chosen to reject Him?  Is it because you have been blinded? In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. [2Co 4:4 KJV]

Before you make your decision final, you should consider the proof you can find of God's existence in your own conscience.  How do you know something is wrong?  How do you know it is wrong to lie, or steal, to cheat, or kill?
(For not the hearers of the law [are] just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. [Rom 2:13 KJV]
For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: [Rom 2:14 KJV]
Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) [Rom 2:15 KJV]

By this time, if you still consider the gospel of Christ foolish and insist on shaking your fist at God,
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, [saying],
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give [thee] the heathen [for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth [for] thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish [from] the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed [are] all they that put their trust in him.
-Psalm 2
