The life that changes

Life changing moments are happening all around us every minute of every day.  I was just thinking on our way back from Florida of how youth can't truly know elegy, but I'm not so sure now.  One reason I write, one reason I teach, and everything else is to make some kind of difference for one more.  I think of the starfish story and the man who walked along the beach picking up starfish and throwing them in the water.  A passerby commented that he can't possibly make a difference with all the starfish washing up around the world.  His reply as he picked up another was, "it makes a difference to that one..."  It might be that the life that changes might be yours.

Into the Fray

I just posted this on the university web page... I thought it was good to post

I am not up to speed on this issue, but I do have a few comments to add:
I believe the proposed law, at least in my state, will make it a felony to threaten law enforcement if you have the immediate means to carry out the threat (i.e. face to face with a weapon in hand or readily available), otherwise, such a threat is protected as free speech.
Secondly, imagine a society without the protection of law enforcement.  I do not think we want to go there, but this "war on cops" is driving alot of good men and women off the force for their own self-preservation.
Thirdly, the narrative that the police are hunting black males is a false narative.  According to http://killedbypolice.net/, whites are the ethnic group with the highest number killed by cops.
Fourth, with only a very few exceptions, criminals die at the hands of police according to carefully scrutinized rules of engagement and in the commission of a CRIME...
Fifth, the few bad cops who do kill are given a double dose of justice, but only with due process.  I say double dose, because they of all people know the law and are without excuse..
Sixth, to pass judgment on officers without using due process, such as Obama, and virtually every news agency in the business, is of the rankest hypocrisy and perpetuates the false narrative (which imho is done intentionally to divide our country).
Additionally, the two elements that are never mentioned in this issue are the majority of black gun deaths are at the hands of other blacks and the city of Chicago and its gun control laws have only led to worse gun violence and higher death tolls.
I have added a few other comments on the web:
